Do you ever get the feeling that your pastor...

Do you ever get the feeling that your pastor is much like Don Knotts in this clip from 1958 as a weatherman who loses his notes?

While it is funny the way Don Knotts was able to portray the nervous weatherman trying to be funny. How many times have you heard a pastor trying desperately to get the people to laugh at his joke? I have heard sermons that were very similar to this clip. The pastor would start off with a smile and would tell a joke. People would give a polite laugh and then sit there waiting for him to start his sermon, only to be followed by more jokes. As he turns to his notes, they are devoid of any meat. They lack substance. They lack the TRUTH of GOD'S HOLY WORD!

For the pastor who is guilty of doing this, he will lose more than just his sponsor. He will be judged by God for his lack of sincere desire to delve into His Word and to preach the Word of God with reverance. Please do not humor your pastor when he starts telling his jokes from behind the pulpit. One quick joke is fine, but do not let him make a fool of himself, or even worse, create false Christians within your church. If he is unable to preach God's Word then he needs to leave the ministry. If it is more important for him to tell jokes than it is to study God's Word so he can more effectively preach the Word, then he needs to find another calling, because preaching is not it for him. I have said it many many times, please do not allow your pastor to be an entertainer! And do not allow him to take liberty with Scripture and ascribe to it a meaning that it was not meant to have (such as Rev 3 where it says He will knock on the door, and try making it to mean that he is knocking on the door of our hearts. That is NOT what the Scripture is saying and it is so very wrong to say that it does! {if someone wants to debate this with me, I am ready to show you WHY it is wrong, are you ready to defend your position biblically?})

It is easy to read a verse and create a 'story' for people to listen to. It takes work to truly study God's Word to give people the true meaning of Scripture. If the pastor is not prepared to preach God's Word, he will end up looking much like Don Knotts did as the weatherman! I pray that is not the case at your church, if it is...

LEAVE! GO FIND A BIBLICAL CHURCH THAT FAITHFULLY PREACHES GOD'S WORD WITHOUT FAIL AND WITHOUT COMPROMISE!

Amen -- except that sometimes there may not be a biblical church within driving distance. Then what to do?

STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!
We are to study God's Word to show thyself approved unto God! You are right, finding a true biblical church is not easy. Not in today's culture of every church trying to satisfy the needs of man as opposed to glorifying the Lord! I would suggest that you put it to prayer and seek God's direction. Do you know other people who are frustrated with not finding a biblical church? Meet with them! Above all, seek the wisdom from God and He will meet your needs!

What does Rev. 3:20 mean, in your opinion? If not our hearts, then where is he knocking?

well, I can respond. It will not be an opinion though. It will be according to what the bible says.

He is knocking on the door of the church. The lukewarm church. We can't be putting more into it than is really there. This church does not realize that He is not on the inside. He is knocking on the door to the church and says that if they will open the door, he will come in. We do not have doors on our hearts. To say that is to take liberty with Scripture that I would not want to do.
