Are you bored?

Are you tired? Rundown? Listless? Do you poop out at parties? Are you unpopular?
Are you bored?
Don't know what to do?

I was listening to the local Christian radio station this past week while at work. I have posted before about the lack of teaching done by this particular station. I even met with the station manager. He had said that he felt they were being a witness to people because of the music they play. He felt that their way of reaching the lost was very effective. Not sure how he came to that conclusion since God's Word is not spoken or preached.

While I love to listen to good Christian music, there are, unfortunately, some songs that are extremely popular that have absolutely no biblical basis to them. In fact, they are actually biblically wrong in their teachings. But people love the song, either because of who is singing it or the melody is easy to sing along with.

My problem with the station grew over this past weekend. The morning show has a man and a woman leading it. They are friendly enough as far as morning hosts go, but they are lacking something. They talk about very trivial things. The thing that got to me most recently was they were talking about how "bored" they had become. Isn't that a nice way for a Christian to present themselves? They are a "bored" Christian. They talk about being stuck in a rut and doing the same things every day. They watch the same television shows (in fact they talk daily about American Idol and who will stay and who will be voted off the show). They talk about their family. They talk about how much they love God. And yet, with all of that love, they not once, have ever talked about evangelizing the lost. Not once have they talked about the need to get out of the house to reach the lost. No, they talk about American Idol and they talk about being bored!

Are you bored?
Are you stuck in a rut in your Christian walk?
Are you tired of doing the same thing day in and day out?

May I suggest something to you that may seem radical? (it's not radical but to most people it will seem radical, it is actually biblical)

Seek and Save the Lost! Go out into the streets and reach the lost for Christ. Start talking to people about Jesus. Engage them in conversation and then present God's Law to them. Ask them if they are a good person.

There is no reason to be bored. None whatsoever! We should be out daily reaching the lost. Why spend a night watching TV when you could be out reaching lost people who are headed for hell?

If you are bored in your Christian walk, I challenge you to do something...

Be obedient to God's Word!
Repent of your sins
Put your faith and trust in Jesus alone to save you
Go into all the world preaching the gospel to every creature
preach in season and out of season!

Be obedient to God's Word!

Are you tired? Rundown? Listless? Do you poop out at parties? Are you unpopular?
Be a messenger, a light to a dark world and your life will change! God will receive the glory!

We are here for His good pleasure and for His glory!

Seek and Save the Lost while there is still time!

  1. Thanks Brian,

How often do we just take the Vitameatavegamin of life and drink ourselves drunk with something that in the end doesn't help or make us "un-bored".

We will do anything but what we are supposed to do.

    Thanks you for the exhortations.

    A Lion Has Roared!

  2. Great post. I actually find myself irritated with TV anymore. We don't watch much. I don't find the same things most people find to be funny as funny. We watch FoodNetwork to see what we want to make the following week. We watch some NatGeo show to see how things are made, and we watch The Dog Whisperer because we want a dog, but we want a good dog. I like to watch the Animal Planet station, and some sporting events, but it is so hard to watch TV without seeing horrible things!!! So many Victoria Secret commercials just pop up randomly! I feel bad for Jason and other men, really. Women always seem to broadcast their bodies so much that it makes it hard for Christian men to watch TV, and it makes so many people stumble. It's ridiculous!!

  3. Evangelize? Come on Brian, you're talking about going against the unsound modern day teachings.... Yeah.......

Great post Brian I liked Lucy's face after she drinks the Vitameatavegamin, it looks like a sinner who was promised an easy road if they became a Christian.

  4. Thanks SJ! Do you suppose it is boredom that causes so many people to hang out at the bars and get drunk. Same thing with the kids all getting into drugs. And for Christians, there is no excuse that is good enough to engage in these activities.

Jessie, Times have changed! When I was younger, I watched "I love Lucy" "The Dick Van Dyke Show" "Leave it to Beaver" these were all pretty safe shows to watch. I remember when it was a big deal on "I Dream of Jeanie" because at one point during the series they decided to show her belly button. Times sure have changed, and not for the better!

  5. Lucy was a great comedian and had great timing in her humor. Of course, after she died, the mormon church did several hundred proxy baptisms for her so that she could go to heaven as a mormon!!! if only they knew the truth of God's Word! There is no second chance!

Without a doubt, although drinking for the sole purpose of getting drunk and doing hard drugs brings is the product of not just boredom, but foolishness and poor judgment.

  7. Amen to that!! I know people get bored, but it amazes me how people don't even give it one thought that maybe the way to combat boredom is to get out of the house and do something for the Lord! Especially when it is something we are commanded to do, like reaching the lost for Christ!

  8. The "main" Christian radio station where I live is simply a "cleaner" version of most secular stations. The DJs that they have talk about the same stuff that they do on all the secular stations, except they don't use profanity. At times, I find it even WORSE than what's on the local secular stations...I think that the problem is that too many Christians are too concerned with being PC and making everyone happy, instead of actually being the salt and light of the earth.

  9. that's right! the radio station here bills itself as being "family" friendly. And I think that is all it is. It is just clean music. I would rather they did not call themselves a Christian station because other than the music there is nothing that distinguishes them from a regular "clean" radio station. The station here just finished there "share-a-thon. I could not bring myself to donate anything to them. They do not even know the Bible (as evidenced by their conversation and not knowing some key things in the Bible)
