Many Mormons make the claim to be true "Christians". When you compare their teachings with basic, orthodox Christian doctrines do they agree?
''Is Mormonism Christian or not?''
THE PRE EXISTENCE OF JESUS CHRIST.
Mormonism: The Mormon Jesus was born in the heavens as a spirit-child of "heavenly father" named Elohim, an exalted man, and one of his spirit-wives by sexual relations. Lucifer, who became Satan the Devil, is the brother of this Mormon Jesus. (The Gospel Through the Ages, p. 15; History of the Church, Vol 6 p. 308, 474.).
Christianity: Jesus Christ is not created, but is eternal, and has always been God. (See Timothy 1: 16: John 1: 1-3; Micah 5:2 1 Timothy 3:16; Titus 2:13; Revelation 1:8; Matt. 1:23).
THE EARTHLY BIRTH
Mormonism: Elohim, the Mormon heavenly father, came to this earth in human form and had sex relations with the Virgin Mary, who was no longer a virgin, and she gave birth to the Mormon Jesus as a result. (See Doctrines of Salvation Vol. 1;18; Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 158; and Journal of Discourses 8: 115 quoting Brigham
Christianity: Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary as "Emmanuel", "God with us." (See Matt. 1:23 ) Jesus was conceived in the Virgin Mary's womb when the Holy Spirit came upon her.) See Matt. 1 :20).
THE EARTHLY LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST
Mormonism: The Mormon Jesus was the bridegroom at Cana of Galilee according to the Mormon interpretation of John 2: 1-2 and was therefore married to at least one wife while on earth. (See Journal of Discourses, Vol 2, p. 82 quoting Orson Hyde (Apostle).
Christianity: There is no biblical record of Jesus marrying. A reading of the account in John 2:1-12 shows Jesus was "invited" to the wedding. Bridegrooms do not receive invitations to their own weddings!
YOUR MOTHER WHICH ART IN HEAVEN? MRS. GOD
Mormonism: teaches that God the father has many wives in heaven, thereby resulting in not only a father in heaven , but a mother-in-heaven Mormon doctrine. All Mormons on earth today believe they were originally the result of such sexual, heavenly union. (See Orson Pratt. The Seer, p37; also Mormon Doctrine by Bruce McConkie, p. 516)
Christianity: The Bible has absolutely no mention of any such "wives" of God the Father.
VIEW OF THE BIBLE
Mormonism: "Ignorant translators, careless subscribers, or designing and corrupt priests have committed many errors--many plain and precious things were deleted, in consequence of which error and falsehood poured into the various churches. One of the greatest heresies of modern Christendom is the unfounded assumption that the bible contains all the inspired teachings now extant among men." (Mormon Doctrine p. 82, 83).
my note: doesn't this sound exactly like something Satan would say about the Bible?
Christianity: "All scripture is given by God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. "2 Timothy 3: 16-17).
"Thy word is very pure". (Psalms 119: 140)
BAPTISM FOR THE DEAD AND GENEALOGY
Mormonism: Mormons research genealogies and get baptized in their temples in proxy for their dead relatives. They misinterpret 1 Corinthians 15: 29 "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
Christianity: Doing genealogies is useless for the Christian. (See 1 Timothy 1 :3 , 4) 1 Corinthians, Chapter 15, is on the subject of the resurrection, not baptism. I Cor. 15: 29 shows the folly of THOSE (not WE believers but THOSE unbelievers)who denied the resurrection, and yet practiced the pagan rite of "baptism for the dead". Hebrews 9:27 shows that once a person is dead, he faces judgment. Nothing the living do can change this.
VIEW OF THE CHURCH
Mormonism: There is no salvation outside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." (Mormon Doctrine p. 670).
All other churches are entirely destitute of all authority from God; and any person who receives baptism or the Lord's Supper from their hands will highly offend God; for He looks upon them as most corrupt of all people. Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the whore of Babylon." (The Seer, p. 255).
why do I keep seeing Satan's hand in all of this wording?
Christianity: The Church in the Bible is the entire born- again body of believers in the true Jesus Christ of the Bible. (Almighty God manifested in the flesh). It is not a man- made organization with a false prophet at it's head!
The true church partakes of the Lord's Supper of bread and wine, not water as the Mormons use. (See John 3: 3-7; Ephesians 1:22,23; 4: 11-16; Matthew 26: 26-30.)
Mormons where do you get your authority?
One of the publications that one might receive if inquiring about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a book titled GOSPEL PRINCIPLES.
This book stresses the importance of the Priesthood to the Mormon Church. During our many discussions with the Mormon Missionaries the topic has sooner or later turned to the question of authority.
Chapter 14, titled "PRIESTHOOD ORGANIZATION" opens with the statement;
"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is governed by the priesthood."
Further down in this same opening paragraph we read:
"Men young and old are baptized into the Church, and when they are judged worthy, they are ordained to the priesthood. They are given the authority to act for the Lord and to do his work on the earth." (Gospel Principles, 1978, Revised 1979 edition, page 79)
Page 81, under the title DEACON we find that ...
"when a boy has been baptized and confirmed a member of the Church and is worthy, he may be ordained to the office of deacon when he is twelve years old."
This is one of the offices of the Aaronic Priesthood.
Along with the Aaronic Priesthood, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also believes in the greater priesthood, called the Melchizedek Priesthood. Those who hold the lesser priesthood, the Aaronic Priesthood, "have authority to administer the outward ordinances of faith, repentance, and baptism..." (Gospel Principles, pg 79)
We can see from these brief statements that the authority of the Priesthood is important to the Mormon Church. It is not the intention of this post to discuss the various aspects of the two priesthoods of the Mormon Church, but I would like to take a close look and see if the authority of the priesthoods ever really existed in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Now we will turn to page 124, Chapter 20, titled BAPTISM. Here we read that baptism "is the first ordinance of the gospel." On this same page is the statement
"WE MUST BE BAPTIZED FOR THE REMISSION OF OUR SINS" and "If we repent, and are baptized, our sins are forgiven through the atonement of Jesus Christ."
Along with the priesthood, baptism is important in the Mormon church, and we are told in Gospel Principles, page 127, that we must be baptized: to become members of the church, before we can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, to show obedience and to enter the celestial kingdom.
The following statements on page 128 clearly show the importance of baptism and authority in the Mormon Church:
"Our sinful life ends when we are baptized." "After baptism we start a new life." "Baptism by immersion by one having the proper authority is the only true and acceptable way of being baptized." "Every person who has reached eight years of age and is accountable, or responsible, for his actions should be baptized."
Now we will turn to the reference titled: PRIESTHOOD RESTORED found in the pamphlet
THE PROPHET JOSEPH SMITH'S TESTIMONY. (pp. 16-17, 1984 ed.)
John the Baptist, as a messenger from heaven, descended and conferred the Priesthood of Aaron on Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery and then commanded them "to go and be baptized" and gave them directions that Joseph Smith should baptize Oliver Cowdery, and that afterwards Oliver Cowdery should baptize Joseph Smith.
The story continues after they were baptized in this manner, then Joseph Smith ordained Oliver Cowdery to the Aaronic Priesthood and afterwards Oliver Cowdery ordained Joseph Smith to the same Priesthood. What's wrong with this story?
Why did "John the Baptist" neglect to baptize Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery? Surely, if it was John the Baptist, he as a messenger from heaven under the direction of Peter, James and John (according to the above-mentioned Mormon tract on Joseph Smith's TESTIMONY) would have known that an unbaptized person could not hold the Priesthood. Even today, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints would NOT bestow the Aaronic Priesthood on an unbaptized (and therefore "unsaved") person. Surely, John the Baptist would have known that--after all he was John the BAPTIST!
Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery washed away their priesthood conferred on them by "John the Baptist". Joseph Smith, an unbaptized person, baptized Oliver Cowdery and therefore Oliver Cowdery's baptism was invalid and so was Joseph's baptism invalid. Consequently, neither had the authority to ordain each other to the Aaronic Priesthood.
All this confusion could have been avoided IF "John the Baptist" had baptized them and then conferred the Aaronic Priesthood on each of them if "John the Baptist" had the authority to do so in the first place. This makes one wonder who this "messenger from heaven" would have been if the story was true. 2 Corinthians 11:14 comes to mind at this point.
"And do not marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." KJV
In summary, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not have the power of the Priesthood and therefore their authority is not Scriptural authority.
According to GOSPEL PRINCIPLES, page 128, we are told that; "Baptism by immersion by one having the proper authority is the only true and acceptable way of being baptized."
Because Joseph Smith's and Oliver Cowdery's baptisms were invalid, the priesthood authority was also invalid. If the "priesthood" that Joseph Smith "received" has been handed down throughout the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as they claim, then they operate today under the deception of an invalid priesthood.
It is our sincere desire to see that the Mormon people hear the true Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and come to a saving knowledge of Him rather than continuing in this deception.
"Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. For he shall be like the heat in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is." Jeremiah 17:5-7. KJV.
"He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
I John 5:12-13. KJV.
When Mormons Pay you a visit
A Christian needs to prepare before the Mormons arrive, by praying right now over the next two who will come. It is important to realize that you will be in a spiritual battle for their souls, so you must fight spiritually. Using the Bible principle found in Matthew 18:18, pray aloud and take authority over the next encounter. in the name of Jesus, bind the deceptive spirit of Mormonism, and "loose" the Mormon missionaries to hear the gospel of Christ. Pray that the Holy Spirit will anoint you for the encounter.
So, here are the missionaries sitting in your living room asking to pray with or for you and your family. It is not proper for a Christian to bow his head while the Mormon missionary prays as their "heavenly father" is an exalted man of flesh and bones, and is not our biblical heavenly Father.
The Christian should lead the prayer in his / her own home. Mormons are usually agreeable to this, and may even say an " Amen!" to a prayer for guidance for God to lead us into all truth. All the better! It is often best to allow the Mormon missionary to proceed with his memorized presentation, but do not respond with a "yes" or "no" to their questions. Rather respond, " please go on" , or inquire about the next picture coming up. This is because most of their questions are so cleverly worded that you may find yourself agreeing to wrong conclusions.
When the missionaries are finished, they will offer to leave a Book of Mormon in your home. They will ask you to read certain marked portions of this " scripture" and then pray to " heavenly "father" as to whether Mormonism is true.
They explain that you will feel a "burning in your bosom" that Mormonism is true. Basically, this is how converts are made, and many people report that their bosoms did indeed "burn" when they proceeded as the missionaries instructed them.
PRESENTATION 1 - FAMILIAR SPIRITS
Thank the missionaries for their offer to leave the Book of Mormon in your home, but ask them, "Don't you people believe that the Book of Mormon has a familiar spirit?" They will usually reply, " yes". if they are uncertain, tell them to ask their Bishop (Mitt Romney was a Bishop) or refer them to "A Marvelous Work and a Wonder" pages 67 and 68. (A Mormon publication).
Tell them that since the Book of Mormon has a familiar spirit, you must decline to have it in your home due to Leviticus 19:31. Have them read this from their King James Version. (Always use a King James Version when dealing with Mormons, they do not recognize any other Bible). It reads,
"Regard not them that have familiar spirits; neither seek after wizards to be defiled by them; I am the Lord your God".
The Mormons may rush off after this, but pray when they leave that the Holy Spirit of conviction will stay with them over this important point. if they will remain, share your personal testimony of the indwelling Christ in your life. If they try to interrupt, remind them that you listened politely to them. Trust the Lord to take your words and convict them of the truth of your statements. He will!
Presentation 2 - BURNING IN THE BOSOM
Thank the Mormons for sharing with you about their burning testimony of the truth of Mormonism, but say you have a few questions regarding the "burning in the bosom" experience. State again that they have asked you to pray to "heavenly father" about whether Mormonism is true, and you will supposedly receive a "burning in the bosom" that it is. They will agree.
Then tell them that this seems to be contrary to the Bible experience of the "burning of the bosom." Invite them to turn in their Bible to Luke Chapter 24. Beginning in verse 13, we have the account of two disciples (notice they were believers not unbelievers) on the road to Emmaus.
The account goes on to say that Jesus joined them, keeping their eyes holden so they would not immediately recognize Him (vs. 16). Jesus explained the scriptures and their fulfillment to these two disciples. By verses 31 and 32, we have this development,
"And their eyes were opened and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another, "Did not our hearts burn (bosoms burn) within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the scriptures?"
Now point out to the Mormons that this "burning in the bosom" is not for unbelievers to see if Mormonism is true , but was an experience for believing disciples, which happened when they understood Jesus' explanation of the scriptures.
It did not come after praying for it. Therefore you would not seek after an experience that the Bible does not command. However, point out that John 3 does have a command for those who would know Christ, and that is "Ye MUST be born again".
Now share your testimony of how you came to know the true faith in Christ Jesus. Pray when they leave that God will convict them.
Presentation 3 - EZEKIEL 37 AND THE BOOK OF MORMON
Begin by inviting the Mormons to read Ezekiel 37: verses 15-22. Ask them, "don't you people believe this refers to the Bible and the Book of Mormon?" They will reply that the Bible is the one stick for Judah and the Book of Mormon is the second stick for Joseph, the stick of Ephraim. The Lord makes the two sticks one, so they believe this authenticates the Book of Mormon.
Now point out the following things: "sticks" in, Hebrew (the original language of Ezekiel) NEVER referred to "scrolls" as they interpret. " if the Book of Mormon is the second stick, "why did it originate on gold plates and not a stick?" Most importantly, the context of Ezekiel 37 is very clear. God was reuniting His divided nation, not foretelling books.Verse 22 concludes with "and they shall be no more two NATIONS, neither shall they be divided into two KINGDOMS any more at all" .
Point out kindly that this prophecy has been fulfilled literally already and cannot be used as a basis for the Book of Mormon at all. Pray when they leave.
Presentation 4 - GENEALOGIES
Mormons succeed in drawing many persons into the church through interest in their family tree. If they approach you about genealogy, invite them to turn to 1 Timothy 1: 3, 4 and read the words of the Apostle Paul,
"I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine. Neither give heed to fables and ENDLESS GENEALOGIES, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do:"
Explain that pursuing endless genealogies is the same as pursuing fables, neither of which will edify us or build up our godly faith. Point out also that we cannot in anyway help our dead relatives. Hebrews 9: 27 says,
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" .
Once a person is dead, he is in God's hands for judgment, and beyond our help. Pray that this scripture will come to them as they spend hours in their genealogical work.
IN Conclusion
Many of the young Mormon missionaries do not fully understand their own doctrine and are not well- versed in the Bible. Usually they pair off a strong one with a weaker one, and many times our efforts to reach them with the gospel do not get immediate results, but as we pray and show them what Christ means to us in our own lives, many eventually come free. Be faithful to pray and witness and give them good tracts and trust the Lord for their eventual salvation in His time.
Quotations from Mormon sources may be found in Mormon Libraries or from members of the Mormon Church.
Contradictory Mormon Doctrines (okay, so it really wasn't "in conclusion")
I invite all honest-hearted Mormons to examine their own "inspired scriptures" and official church doctrine books to see if they can honestly believe them all. Take the time to look up all the following references in the libraries in your stake houses so you can determine that they are in context and correct. If the Mormon church is true you have nothing to fear by such an investigation. If, on the other hand, this booklet has raised doubts and caused you to ask questions, I am here to help you in total confidentiality.

on a final note: Mormons would consider themselves to be "good" people. They are clean, friendly, spiritual and loving. They look after their "own." They feel they are Christians because they hear us say Jesus is the Son of God and they agree. But, as you have read, it is not the same Jesus they follow. In fact, many in the Mormon Church have no true idea of what Christians teach about God. They do not know what the Bible says and Scripture, except for what their leaders have told them it means. They will say, "I know the church is true." And yet, when it comes testimony time, they will send little three year old kids up front and their parents will stand there whispering in their ears, "okay, tell them you love you mommy and daddy. I LOVE MY MOMMY AND DADDY. Tell them you love your brothers and sisters. I LOVE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS. Tell them you know Joseph Smith was a true prophet. I KNOW JOSEPH SMITH IS A TRUE PROPHET. Tell them you know the church is true. I KNOW THE CHURCH IS TRUE. Amen. AMEN.
My mormon friends, you cannot deny that this happens all the time in church. You have been trained from the time you could talk to say these things. For those who have become converts into the LDS church, you have to acknowledge that your biblical knowledge is lacking. I was the same way too. Set the mormon books aside (better yet, throw them away), and read only the Bible. That is God's Word without error! Read the book of John. Read also the Book of Romans. Look specifically for why Jesus came. Look at how God's Law was used to bring sinners to the foot of the cross.
Have you ever told a lie? that makes you a liar
Have you ever stolen anything, regardless of the value? that makes you a thief
Have you ever lusted after a girl (or another person)? that makes you an adulterer.
So, by your own admission. You are a lying, thief and an adulterer at heart and you will have to face God one day. Your god has three different levels of heaven. The God of the Bible has heaven and HELL. You have broken God's Laws and you are guilty before a just and holy God. You are destined for HELL. The ONLY way you can be saved is to put your faith and trust in the Jesus of the Bible (not the Mormon Jesus). Only through the Jesus of the Bible can you be saved. You need to repent of your sins. Be obedient to what the Bible says (not was mormon teaching says -- it really is okay to drink Pepsi and coffee!)
I have mormon friends who are headed to hell and it scares me. Please be in prayer that this post will open their eyes to the Truth of God's Word.
